Those who know me, know that I am not a “gamer” in much of any sense. The last time I bought video games, or a system was Nintendo 64, and that was only 3 years ago. Games just got too complicated for me, and I lost interest. I played around some in college, Grand Theft Auto series, Max Payne, nothing too complicated. I certainly didnt OWN a PS2… until I played Guitar Hero at the beginning of the year.
I played it for a few hours, on and off and decided that I had to obtain a PS2.
Flash forward 10 months, Guitar Hero 2 is released. I had it the next day. And thanks to a mess up in delivery from a multi-national billion dollar corporation, I ended up with a free Guitar controller.
This game is a big improvement on the last one. Kickass songs, better game play. The most popular mode of play has to be the multiplayer mode. In the first game, this was soley head to head combat of the guitar nature. In the sequel, not only can you play head to head, but you can play cooperatively. And this game is not limited soley to the guitar. You can play lead guitar, rhythm guitar, or bass. Playing cooperatively, in my opinion, is the superior of the 2 modes. You actually feel like you are playing in a band with your partner, it’s pretty cool. The downside to the multiplayer ( MP ) mode is the fact that in order to play all of the songs in MP mode, you have to unlock them by playing them in Career Mode. So last night, Webster and I played the first 8 songs in MP mode, but couldnt play anymore, because we had not beaten the songs in Career Mode. A little disappointing, but I can understand why they made it that way.
Career Mode is basically the same as it ever was. Though last night, I witnessed a cool new feature: Encore. I dont know what brought it on, but Webster finished a song, and it didnt bring him back to the main screen. The crowd kept cheering, and a new screen came up, asking if he wanted to play an encore for the audience.
So if you were a fan of the first game, and havent already bought the second game, go out and get it. You will not be disappointed!
