I had never read this book. I found an old copy of it downstairs and decided it was high time I read this classic novel. Much like when I try to watch most movies from > 40 years ago, I found this hard to get into. It’s the story of 2 cities, London and Paris, from the mid 1770s – 1790s. It follows basically 2 men, an Englishman and a Frenchman and how their lives interconnect.
There is love, loss, revolution and much blood shed towards the end. I don’t think I missed much, but yet I feel that if I had been reading this book as an Englishman in the 19th century, I would’ve walked away with more than I did today. I do not regret reading it, and the next time I am at a cocktail party and someone is discussing mid 18th century Europe, I can chime in.
